Anton Yelchin (March 11, 1989 – June 19, 2016) born in Leningrad (Now St. Petersburg), to Irina Korina and Victor Yelchin (both skaters), was an American actor who became popular for his performance as Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek film franchise reboot series; Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016).

Yelchin began his acting career in the late 1990’s. His debut film was A Man Is Mostly Water (2000), after which he went on to star in various films including A Time for Dancing, Delivering Milo (2001), House of D (2004), Alpha Dog (2007), Charlie Bartlett (2007), Terminator Salvation (2009), Fright Night (2011), The Smurfs (2011), Only Lovers Left Alive (2013), Green Room (2015) and Thoroughbred (2017). His role of Bobby Garfield in Hearts in Atlantis (2001), won him his first award as a Lead Young Actor, and the 2002 science fiction miniseries, Taken, skyrocketed his career as a child actor. He had reprised Pavel Chevok role in Star Trek Beyond before he died, and the films that he had completed filming were released posthumously.

In the morning of June 19, 2016, his friends found him pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and brick pillar outside his house, after which he was pronounced dead later. It was ruled out as a ‘freak accident’.

Anton Yelchin was six months old when his parents moved to U.S. after they received refugee status from United States Department of Justice, and was the only child. He was 27 years old when he died.

Having been born in a Jewish family, Yelchin was not devout to his religion. Before moving to the U.S. his family faced religious and political oppression.

Yelchin was not active in politics. He neither commented on politics nor take any leanings in regards to American politics. Perhaps this is due to the political oppression his family experienced when he was a toddler in Leningrad.
