Robyn Rihanna Fenty, popularly known as Rihanna is a Barbadian singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados and brought up in Bridgetown. In 2003, Rihanna recorded demo tapes, under producer Evan Rogers. She then went ahead and signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings, after auditioning for Jay Z, who was the president of the recording label by then.
Rihanna rose to fame in 2005 after releasing her first studio album, Music of the Sun. In 2006, she released her second album, A Girl like Me, which ranked on the top 10 of the US Billboard 200. Rihanna released her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad in 2007, an album which transformed her into a sex symbol. As a result, the singer won her first Grammy Award in 2008 for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay Z.
Her 2012 album, Unapologetic, won her a Grammy award and produced hits like Diamond and Stay featuring Mikky Ekko. Interestingly, the album was her first to hit number one on the pop charts. Rihanna was recognized as a pop icon after releasing four consecutive platinum studio albums. In 2016, she released her eighth album, Anti, and its lead single, Work, topped the US Billboard 200 and Hot 100.
She is one of the best-selling artists of all time, as she has sold over 230 million records worldwide. She has won 12 American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, 8 Grammy Awards and the inaugural Icon Award at the American Music Awards in 2013.
